   Ecco un vero prete, non veste di rosso ma è pronto al martirio, testimone di Cristo. Quanto vorrei fossero così la maggioranza dei nostri vescovi della CEI e cardinali vestiti di rosso.

   Siamo alle solite: dalle aule magne delle università cattoliche non parla più Cristo: sarebbe insopportabile.
   L’hanno capito i parrucconi modernisti, che infatti si affrettano a dare una laurea honoris causa a un presidente abortista e ideologicamente agli antipodi del cattolicesimo.
   E Cristo dov’è? Come al solito sta in mezzo ai soldati, ammanettato e portato via. I pochi discepoli guardano e aspettano di fare la stessa fine.

   Non posso sentire correttamente e per intero l’audio, ma mi sembra tutto inglese.
   Ho letto però il commento sottostante.

   Dunque la notizia, COME DATA QUA, parrebbe essere che hanno arrestato un prete PERCHE’ pregava innocentemente davanti ad un università.

   Ma…voi siete solite andare a dire le vostre consuete preghiere davanti ad un’università portandovi dietro la vostra comoda e discreta crocettina in scala 1:1?
   Io le vado a dire al mercatone uno arruolando la mia ex classe del liceo per fare un presepio vivente…tutti i giorni…

   

   Beh, dai, ovviamente si trattava di una provocazione a forte carattere simbolico, e il prete non si stava limitando a pregare…era una protesta attiva.

   Prima di passare per un fascista, dico subito che certo non è lecito arrestare qualcuno perché dice la sua, ovviamente.

   Lo diventa se questo qualcuno sconfina in zone riservate (come fanno quegli idioti frustrati dei Black Block invadendo le cosiddette “zone rosse”).

   Ora dal video non si capisce se questo anziano signore si sia addentrato in una zona off limits (ove non son ammesse, per questioni di sicurezza e ordine pubblico (prevenzione di attentati e cose così)) per perpetrare la sua protesta.

   …è anche vero che, a giudicare da un famoso video di un giovane taserizzato perché faceva domande lecite e scomode a John Kerry, in America non sian poi di così ampie vedute come voglion far credere a tutto il mondo.

   Non so.
   Ma non è il caso di, nè è corretto, depistare la gente dicendo che adesso si iniziano ad arrestare i preti perché pregano in luogo pubblico…

   Catholic priest, Fr Weslin, arrested at Catholic Univ for protesting abortion

   Then came something I hope I never see again as long as I live. A nonviolent Catholic priest, on the grounds of a Catholic University, protesting the most sacred tenet of the Catholic Church, dressed in full habit, was taken to the ground, had his hands forcibly handcuffed behind his back and then was humiliatingly laid out on a blue fabric “stretcher” and hauled away like a piece of meat.

   It is the most shocking thing I have witnessed directly related to barry’s actions.

   Watch the video yourself. No matter your views on abortion, embryonic stem cells, religion, politics or barry himself, ask yourself, honestly, if this makes you proud of your president and whether it makes you proud as an American. And then ask yourself if any award is worth what was done to this priest. His dignity stripped as he was taken to the ground with no regard for his habit, his hands pulled behind his back and then carried off like a lamb to slaughter. Answer to your own conscience. And then realize it isn’t quite 4 months into barry’s term.

   Father Norman Weslin is being assisted by someone and appears unsteady on his feet. He truly cannot understand why they are arresting him even though he has been arrested many (>50) times, resulting in serious injury. This time though he is on the campus of Notre Dame University. I understand his incredulity. Why should a Catholic priest have to protest against a Catholic University to uphold the Teachings of the Church? It boggles the mind. Worse is the papal silence (until today – another post) and lack of outrage among Catholic Bishops and Cardinals.

   So 26 seconds in he is told he is being arrested.

   Bystander: God be with you, Father.

   Bystander: Bless you Father.

   Bystander 1: Bless you Father, in the name of Jesus. It’s a shame for Notre Dame today.

   Father begins to sing and bystanders join in.

   Immaculate Mary, your praises we sing,

   You reign now in Splendor with Jesus your King.

   (1:00) Father drops to the ground and four policemen surround him. He is not resisting – just trying to sing – and he is winded by the manhandling.

   Disgusted bystander 1 repeats: Shame! Shame on Father Jenkins! [President of Notre Dame]

   Father continues to sing:

   Ave, Ave, Ave Maria,

   Ave, Ave, Ave Maria.

   He doesn’t pull his hand away while Policeman A is slipping a piece of rope over his wrist and pulling his hand behind his back – the other already behind him. They don’t give him instructions and he is treated like any Saturday night drunk: impersonally and hear we go again.

   He continues to sing:

   In Heaven, the Blessed, Your glory proclaim…

   His hands are so high behind his back he has to bend forward.

   Bystander 1 says something about Obama and it’s a Catholic University and ain’t nobody saying anything.

   Except for her.

   Father is still bent forward with his knees on the bare ground with three full sized men and a woman trying to tie him up. He is not resisting – he continues to sing:

   …On earth, your children invoke your sweet name…

   Bystander 1 berates someone and repeats: Shame! Shame! Shame!

   It is reassuring that one human being, acknowledge what she was witnessing and made her thoughts known. Halfway through the arrest, after she begins to cry, her voice is no longer heard. What was done to her and by whom?

   Father continues his singing:

   ….Ave, Ave, Ave Maria.

   They are still trying to bind his hands together behind his back. The cameramen and photographers say nothing as they hover like pirahnas.

   Did not a single one of them find it reprehensible?

   Maybe it look different through their lenses.

   There was absolutely no need to handcuff his hands in the back. They could have handcuffed him in front so he could still hold his rosary and retains his dignity – something that should go unsaid. He was not treated with respect. He was not given the simple deference a Man of God deserves. It speaks volumes of all present, especially Policeman A, who appears to be in charge.

   Father continues singing to Jesus’ mother:

   Immaculate Mary, Your praises we sing,

   Bystander 1 is crying.

   Father starts to tip. Wit his hands secured behind his back, he is unable to balance himself. It’s remarkable how supple he is with his legs bunched under him.

   He speaks:

   Notre Dame…

   Slapped on the shoulders and upper arms by Policeman A.

   …is putting a priest–

   Policeman A then puts both hands tight across Father Weslin’s shoulders, causing Father to grimace in pain. Freeze at (2:22) and ask yourself how it makes you feel. Ask yourself if you would feel differently if it were your relative, or a Holy Man of any other ethnicity, race or religion. And if so, why?

   Father continues:

   Notre Dame is arresting the police. We don’t need the people out there to correct us.

   Policeman A grips down on Father’s shoulders, his legs crumpled to the side, pinning him in place on the hard cement pavement. Imagine for a minute if this was an 80 y/o black priest and four white policemen were videotaped doing the same. Would there be outrage? What if it were an Imam outside a mosque?

   Father looks into one of the cameras, incredulous:

   We-we-we’re Catholic priests. Why are you arresting a Catholic priest for trying to stop the killing of a baby? Use your mind. What are you doing that for? Why are you arresting a priest for trying to stop the killing of a baby? You’ve got it all backwards. They’re trying to hurt the policemen so they shut up. That’s what you do. That’s why you’ve got this whole problem.

   He seems confused. I don’t quite get what he means about the police. Policeman A puts a tag on a piece of rope around Father’s neck – like he’s a prize head of beef that needs identifying. Like his collar no longer identifies him.

   And now you’re putting one around my neck!

   Male bystander: His arms are already hurt.

   Policeman A: I understand that.

   Policeman off camera: Just drag him.

   Policeman A, who understands that Father’s arms are already hurt, continues to yank Father by his arm to lay him down so they can haul him away. He knows his arms are hurt and doesn’t have the humanity to untie his hands from behind his back.

   Now ask yourself if the level of violence by the police matched the benign, justifiable nature of the protest and the protester’s non-resistance.

   What is your threshold for police brutality?

   Policeman A and Female Officer roughly drag Father back and roll him over on his left side on a thin blue stretcher with his hands still bound tightly behind his back. After he is given a final shove and knee by Policeman A, Father says (3:20):

   Land of Freedom!

   Poignant words coming from a man who defended it with his life for 2o years in the Army.

   Bystander or cameraman: Wow. I can’t believe I am seeing this.

   I choose to believe he is uttering it in disbelief and disgust, rather than as vicarious entertainment. How do you interpret his words?

   And what I can’t believe us people are just standing by and doing nothing to help Father. No comments to the police about the insanity of it all.

   Wouldn’t you like to know what was going on inside the bystanders’ and officers’ heads? Inside their consciences?

   Bystander 1 can no longer be heard. What was done to her?

   Male bystander: His arms were broken by the last police officer.

   Said loud enough for all to hear, and yet Father is left on his side having to hold up his head with his hands bound behind him. He is not resisting. And as the bystanders start to sing, the Policeman B holds the blue stretcher material right up to Father’s face, who clearly cannot move it away himself. He can’t move because Policeman A has his boot on the blue material and his leg and knee tight against Father’s lower back, like he’s propping open a door.

   Look around. Look at all the cameramen and regular folks talking pictures as a 80 y/o Man of God lays in full habit on the ground with his hands bound behind him, the blue edge of the stretcher material in his face and a leg pinning his back.

   What are you feeling as you watch this?

   Imagine if that were your father or grandfather.

   What would be your feelings if he was instead wearing his Army uniform?

   Father begins to sing – never once complaining about his position or his humiliation or the fact that no one has come to his aid. Not even another Man of God, Pastor Rick Scarborough, who chose only to speak when they were about to haul Father away.

   Immaculate Mary, Your praise we sing,

   You reign now in Splendor–

   And then suddenly there’s quiet (4:06) except for the click of the camera – which even stops – as Father lays with not a single person offering to support his head. Not a single person asks him if he’s in pain. Not a single word from the four policemen who surround him. No apologies to a man who is twice their age, who served his country before they were born. No embarrassment with what they are doing to a harmless Man of God. No: I’m sorry, Father, it’s my job.

   This is really hard to watch. Especially over and over to transcribe it. Each time overcome with a profound bewilderment mixed with something unnameable that my fellow Americans can do this to an 80 y/o Man of God, who is doing exactly what he is supposed to.

   The words I feel about the man who brought this about are untranslatable.

   A full minute Father lays on the ground on his side with his hands bound behind him and Policeman A’s leg propping him up from the back and Policeman B & C holding up the blue material in front of him. He is being restrained like a common drunk. Like he is about to get up and flee or become combative.

   Finally, they lift him up and struggle as they haul him away.

   Father, still not uttering a word of protest or complaint, his shoes hanging off the end.

   This was not a big group. There were no agitators. Bystander 1, the vocal protester with a conscience, was somehow silenced. Police and security were there waiting and yet it took four full minutes to arrest a 80 y/o man who was not fighting them.

   Now recall how Policeman A said he knew about Father’s injuries. That means he knew who he was and was expecting him. So why not a simple wheelchair?

   If nothing else, why not hoist Father Indian style between two policemen with another in front and back? They could have removed him from the scene in a minute – the time he laid on the ground helpless and defenseless while bystanders and professionals took pictures and videos liek he wasn an exhibit at the zoo.

   Would you want to be laid out like that?

   Would you like to witness your parent laid out like that, helpless with a pack of silent humans surrounding them?

   Why the need for the complete humiliation of a peaceful Man of God, who was not in any way resisting?

   Why can’t a Catholic priest walk onto the campus of a Catholic University to peacefully proclaim his faith and stand up for what he believes: the sanctity of human life? What all Catholics should believe.

   Why were there no University priests or nuns there protesting his manhandling? Catholic professors? Catholic students?

   Any human with an inch of a soul and an ounce of compassion?

   I hope you folks are fully aware that barry could have gotten his grand welcome and given his teleprompter reading and avoided this by simply not accepting the degree Notre Dame was offering him. But his ego wouldn’t budge. ASU wouldn’t give him anything but naming rights to an already established scholarship. He was not about to go 2-0.

   Professor Mary Ann Glendon, who was to have received the highest award Notre Dame bestows, and who was honored by them before, would not have had to decline if barry had chosen not to accept the honorary award that has no meaning. I take that back. That award will forever be linked to the image of Father Neslin helpless on the ground, hands bound behind his back, his torso held in place, not by hands, but a leg and a pice of material.

   Professor Glendon declined the Laetare Medal because Notre Dame, the premier Catholic University in the US, was giving an award to a man who believes killing a fetus is okay and vows to keep it legal.

   A Catholic University, which is supposed to be guided by the Teachings of the Church – the most absolute, the sanctity of life – allowed the arrest of a Catholic Priest for simply standing by his Faith. For doing what he took a sacred vow to do: defend the Teachings of the Church. The same exact Church the University should be defending.

   And how is it a Catholic University when it allows a devout Man of God to be manhandled, bound and humiliated for the sake of a man who disregards the most sacred tenet of the Church? A man who believes killing a fetus is not murder. A man who voted to withhold treatment from a human life that by any definition was alive, despite the attempt to murder it?

   Why was a Catholic priest arrested on the campus of a Catholic University for protesting abortion?

   Why weren’t the faculty and surrounding parish priests standing right next to him?

   Effettivamente, il problema qui è la assoluta mancanza di tatto e rispetto dei poliziotti americani che portano via l’anziano uomo come fosse un “pezzo di carne” o un “ubriaco del sabato sera”.
   Per carità, a colpo d’occhio il vecchio prete non mi sembrava lucidissimo, ma a maggior ragione bisognava trattarlo con dovuto rispetto, come si fa (o meglio, si dovrebbe fare) in famiglia con le persone anziane: “Padre, mi scusi non può stare qui! Sono obbligato a portarla fuori, e non posso rifiutarmi. Venga, la accompagno, prenda il mio braccio”.
   Punto.
   Invece temo che quel fantasma impalpabile di cui l’America ha paura sia già annidato nel suo seno: la disumanizzazione dell’essere umano.

   Essa trova le sue radici nella spersonalizzazione degli individui, e di certo un grandissimo paese, molto potente, con una florida (e putrida al tempo stesso) economia capitalista, sono condizioni che predispongono il suo serpeggiare.

   Basti pensare alla tendenza all’abuso di potere che gli stessi registi americani affibbiano ai poliziotti locali.
   Inciviltà.
   Abitudine malsana all’idea di vivere in un mondo dove tutti insieme contiamo tanto e da solo non conti nulla, dove il formicaio ha il potere e una sola, isolata formichina con un problema è un’errore approssimabile a zero.

   La grandezza di uno stato invece si vede dalle condizioni di vita del cittadino comune, non certo da quelle degli opulenti e spesso straviziati capitani di industria.

   E qui…beh…emerge il solito dato che anche l’America è un regime, solo che vuole spacciarsi come l’Anti-regime.

   Quel video del ragazzo arrestato e taserizzato (quando già ammanettato, inerme, posto a terra) perché continuava a gridare “Vedete tutti quello che mi stanno facendo! Perché mi fate questo? Non ho fatto niente di maleeaaaaaargh!” non lo dimentico.
   La domanda (una delle tante) che aveva rivolto a John Kerry, prima di essere arrestato e taserizzato (che dovrebbe essere usata con prudenza su sconosciuti, perché in presenza di problemi cardiaci può portare alla morte) è stata “Cosa dice del fatto che lei fa parte della setta Skull&Bones, la stessa di cui è membro George W. Bush?”.

   Beh…in America sono abituati così…al di là del pensiero politico o religioso.

    infatti al nostro vecchio prete gli è successo jn parte quello che è successo a Gesù ed è quello che può succedere a tutti noi cristiani che crediamo di vivere in un mondo civile e cristiano ed invece ci troviamo sempre di più in un mondo secolarizzato e che poco alla volta ci toglierà il diritto/dovere di manifestare liberamente la nostra fede.

    A Padre Norman, gli agenti lo hanno maltrattato ed umiliato, ma chi ha condannato lui ed ha richiesto gli agenti ad arrestarlo dal campus in così male modo, è stato un prete cattolico suo fratello in Cristo, il Rettore della Università Cattolica(!) Notre Dame ed il vescovo del luogo se n’è lavato le mani! Proprio come è successo a Gesù condannato dai sacerdoti del tempio!

    Un’aspetto molto triste e doloroso che dobbiamo rilevare è che la nostra Chiesa Cattolica non è più al cento per cento cattolica. Una buona parte si è buttata nel sociale, è diventata modernista e protestante. Questa chiesa si associa molto facilmente agli Obama di turno. Lo stesso sta avvenendo in Europa e non di meno in Italia dove la maggior parte dei vescovi è disobbediente al Papa.

    Auguriamoci di continuare nel prossimo futuro, ad essere fedeli testimoni di Cristo, coraggiosi e pronti al martirio come Padre Norman Weslin, anche se noi non vestiamo di rosso. Il minimo che ti potrà succedere è di essere derisi, umiliati e calunniati dai nostri fratelli del tempio. ….Come a Gesù Cristo.

    Che il vescovo del luogo se ne sia lavete le mani è una sua deduzione. Non essendo presente, che cosa avrebbe dovuto o potuto fare, secondo lei?

    Quello che è sconvolgente è il comportamento del direttore dell’università “cattolica”, che non ha permesso una manifestazione religiosa del tutto pacifica in una zona pubblica dell’università ed ha addirittura chiesto ed ottenuto l’intervento violento della polizia contro il vecchio ed evidentemente inoffensivo prete.

    Penso che il minimo che dovrebbe succedere a questo punto è che la Chiesa americana ritiri il permesso all’università in questione di fregiarsi del nome di cattolica fino a che questo Father Jenkins non darà le proprie dimissioni o andrà in pensione.

    anche io sono stato calamitato da un link trovato in facebook a questo sito che non conoscevo.
    Anche se riconosco che il don è stato trattato molto male (come Massimo ed altri hanno constatato ), mi riconosco in quanto scrive Tananaele86 , e un po’ meno in quanto ha scritto PaoloD : scusate se lo scrivo proprio in un sito cattolico (lo sono pure io ) , ma per fortuna la Chiesa cattolica non è piu al 100 % cattolica . Guai se non ci fossero stati dubbiosi e innovatori: in tal caso neppure la pena di morte sarebbe stata condannata dal Vaticano. E soprattutto se per essere al 100 % cattolici bisognasse condividere , ad esempio, la posizione del nunzio apostolico Migliore , secondo il quale non si deve smettere di uccidere gli omosessuali laddove lo si fa, con un’argomentazione speciosa , ben venga lo scisma.
    Sono emersi invece problemi che potrebbero presto acuirsi anche in Italia : ovvero quello dell’abuso di potere da parte dei poliziotti. Per quanto riguarda Obama lo si sapeva che il suo partito fosse lo stesso di Clinton . Ma Bush con chi se la prende per la sua impopolarità ?

    mamma nn potevo pensare mai che sarebbe successo una cosa di questa..io spero soltanto che la madonna ci aiuti e aiuti i potenti di mettersi una mano sul cuore e sulla coscenza… un abbraccio forte a questo povero prete anziano di vero cuore e vi lascio cn questa frase di Madre Teresa di calcutta….Ama la vita e amala seppure non ti da ciò che potrebbe, amala anche se non è come tu la vorresti, amala quando nasci e ogni volta che stai per morire.     in nome di una falsa libertà si uccidono innocenti incapaci di difendersi e noi che ci scandalizziamo per un cagnolino abbandonato abbiamo messo a tacere la nostra coscienza, difronte al crimine più bestiale che l’uomo potesse concepire. come si fa ad avere paura della vita? come si fa a preferire la morte? si può vivere felici costruendo la propria falsa felicità sull’omicidio? cosa rende felici? non è forse la verità che rende liberi? e chi è la verità? è vero: la luce venne nel mondo, ma il mondo non la comprese e preferì le tenebre! ma guai a noi se non annunciassimo la verità! ecco questo prete, cristiano autentico, testimonia la propria fede come solo un uomo coerente cristiano sa fare per dono e grazia di Dio.

    L’arresto del sacerdote che portava la croce e pregava con poche persone in un viale era visibilmente un atto di protesta civile, come altrettante non ce ne sono mai state. Nessuna resistenza alle forze dell’ordine, nessun sconfinamento in luoghi off limits, nessuna forma di violenza,… E’ inspiegabile e incomprensibile l’arresto e in quella maniera propria dei delinquesti. Dov’è l’America patria della democrazia?!!!
    Sarebbe auspicabile che Obama vedesse il filmato e a nome dell’America chiedesse scusa al sacerdote anziano e alla chiesa cattolica.

    ho letto diversi commenti in proposito….dove in forma politica, dove in chiave demagogica, dove in forma cristiana, dove asettica e materialista….signori di fondamentale c’è che il Prete nn deambulava bene affatto ed i suoi seguaci erano di una calma disarmante…..come mai allora ci voleva tutta quella polizia? e come mai lo hanno legato con le mani dietro la schiena causandogli sofferenze agli arti? e come mai quell’orrendo cartellino al collo? e come mai lo hanno trasportato come un cadavere senza far avvicinare nessuno che vedesse se stava fisicamente bene?….per un rispetto della proprietà privata violata?….potevano chiudere i cancelli o mettere una guardania….probabilmente non era una proprietà privata ed il diritto a manifestare era lecito…ma la risposta è che se non era una manifestazione pacifica col cacchio che facevano un arresto del genere….ma trattandosi di gente pacifica allora si sono scoperti tutti tutori della legge…rambo dei più agguerriti…un vero schifo…dovrebbero arrestare gli spacciatori di droga che uccidono o i protettori delle prostitute che uccidono pure….o magari qualche vero terrorista….ma si sa, per far vedere che la macchina della giustizia funziona è meglio prendersela con chi non ti reagisce….pura vigliaccheria!!!!!…esprimo solidarietà al reverendo Padre e schifo chiaramente chiunque si schieri a favore di poliziotti vigliacchi!!!!

    Oltre al trattamento disumano che hanno avuto gli agenti, è bene evidenziare che il principale responsabile di questo fatto è il Rettore della Università Cattolica(!) Notre Dame che ha richiesto agli agenti di arrestare Padre Norman. Il Rettore è un sacerdote cattolico, ed e lui che va addebitata la maggior responsabilità, insieme anche al vescovo diocesano del posto che non ha fatto nulla per i molteplici arresti che sono stati fatti in quei giorni e che ha concorso lui stesso all’onorificenza data al più radicale presidente USA in favore all’aborto.

    Aggiungerei che una responsabilità morale molto forte sono gli articoli di supporto alla onorificenza data ad Obama, origine di queste manifestazioni pacifiche, che sono apparsi di recente nell’OSSERVATORE ROMANO da parte del Direttore VIAN e alla sua intervista con Rodari dove ha confermato il suo positivo apprezzamento ad Obama e alla Università Notre Dame, scandalizzando i cattolici Americani. E’ da notare che Vian ha del tutto ignorato di scrivere nell’Osservatore Romano e nella sua intervista con Rodari che ben 79 vescovi americani hanno fatto dichiarazioni negative sulla onorificenza data ad Obama.

    Avessimo anche noi in Italia altrettanti 79 vescovi come questi vescovi USA. Certamente Papa Benedetto XVI ne sarebbe rincuorato. Purtroppo la maggior parte dei nostri vescovi la pensano come il Rettore di Notre Dame.

    Paolo D, non capisco perché Lei attacchi il vescovo diocesano del posto, la sa condanna è stata chiarissima e severa.
    Il vescovo per la prima volta dopo quasi 20 anni ha disertato la cerimonia, ha accusato il rettore di far prevalere il suo desiderio di “prestigio” sopra la verità cattolica, ha condannato duramente il suo comportamento.
    Non capisco su che basi Lei possa affermare che il vescovo D’Arcy abbia addirittura “concorso” al conferimento dell’onoreficienza, quando lo stesso ha stigmatizzato l’iniziativa del rettore come in spregio alle direttive dei vescovi americani.
